Are Dental Veneers For Me?

Are your teeth crooked in misshapen? Are you not happy with the color of your natural teeth?  Do you want to brighten and improve your smile without using chemical-filled teeth whitening kits? If so, dental veneers have become a great permanent option to enhance your smile.

At Rolling Hills Dentistry, our cosmetic dentist, Dr. Blake Winokur DMD, is a dental veneer expert. When you are considering any sort of cosmetic dental work it is important to ensure that you are choosing the best cosmetic dentist in Danbury.  In regards to dental veneers, if done poorly you may need to replace them shortly after. Dental veneers, or porcelain veneers, need to be executed with extreme precision and caution.

What Are Dental Veneers?

Dental veneers are teeth coverings that a cosmetic dentist attaches to the front surface of your natural tooth. A thin shell of porcelain is made to fit the style, size, and color of the rest of your natural teeth. They are considered a permanent solution since the dentist will remove a layer of your tooth enamel and sculpt your tooth surface to ensure that the veneer sticks to your front teeth without problems.

There are a ton of cosmetic dentistry services to change the look of your teeth and even add teeth, such as dental implants, however dental veneers tend to be the least invasive of the options.

What Type Of Problems Do Dental Veneers Fix?

  • Teeth that are discolored — either because of stains from beverages, smoking, and other causes.
  • Teeth that are worn down
  • Teeth that are chipped or broken
  • Misaligned, slightly crooked teeth
  • Gaps between teeth

What Is The Porcelain Veneer Procedure Like?

Usually, it takes about two to three appointments with your preferred dentist. The first is a consultation. The next two are to create and place the veneers on the surface of your teeth.

Consultation

During your consultation, it’s important to address questions and concerns, but more importantly why you’re looking for dental veneers and your expectations. Our Danbury dentist will be able to help guide you in the right direction. He’ll also let you know if porcelain veneers are your best option, or if you should consider another cosmetic dentistry procedure.

Preparation

To prepare for a dental veneer a cosmetic dentist will strip off a thin layer of your tooth enamel, which typically is the same width of the veneer that will be placed. Before the dentist strips your enamel you’ll decide if there is a need for a local anesthetic to numb the area. Next, your Danbury dentist will take an impression of your tooth to get the proper measurements for your veneer. The mold is sent to a dental lab for the veneer to be created. Your dentist will also let you know if he can place a temporary veneer on your tooth surface.

Placement and Bonding

The first step is to ensure that your new permanent dental veneer fits the aesthetic of the rest of your natural teeth. Your dentist will move and trim the veneer until it fits perfectly. Once the dentist determines that the veneer fits how it should, your tooth will be prepared for the placement. The cosmetic dentist will clean, polish and etch your tooth, which roughens the surface to allow for a stronger bond. Once your tooth is properly prepared your dentist will place a layer of dental cement on your tooth and the veneer is placed on top. Once everything hardens the dentist will remove any excess cement and make final adjustments to the veneer.
